Published Obituary for ATD

ANNE THOMPSON DAVENPORT Born in Gourock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, in 1928, Anne was the only daughter of John Cowan Thompson and Flora Anne McKinnon. Anne earned her medical degree from Glasgow University Medical School in 1952, with residencies in Glasgow, London, and Dublin. Anne practised opthalmology in Santa Fe for close to 45 years. Much of that time, she also treated patients at the Villa Therese Catholic Clinic every week. Over the years, she treated multiple generations of families, with care that ranged well beyond strictly ocular. She met, and fell in love with, David C Davenport, in 1965. They felt their way forward in life, with a family of his four children from David's prior marriage, and then a new baby. Anne brought a vigorous determination to this endeavor. Together, they enjoyed a life of political and intellectual debate, sports, entertaining, and travel. She was bereft at the passing of her love in 2001. Though dementia eventually eroded her capacity, she remained a commanding presence. She stayed very much herself in her bright welcome of visitors, her fierce sense of social justice, her indomitable pride, and her concern for family. Anne is survived by her daughter, Seonaidh ( husband Brian Sharon, daughter Nuala Sharon); her step-children, David Jr., George, Leighton, and Douglas; and their respective families.
